Gil Scott-Heron : 1. The Bottle 2. I'll Take Care Of You 3. I'm New Here
Gil Scott-Heron is rated as one of the most important pioneers of Hip-Hop and Rap Music as he often used the spoken word as his stylistic device but also facing political and social problems in his songs.He worked as a musician but also as a poet. Heron had his first commercial success in the 70s which continued until the late 80s. After being dropped by his record label he continued touring on his own. "In 1993, he signed to TVT Records and released Spirits, an album that included the seminal track "'Message to the Messengers". The first track on the album criticized the rap artists of the day."* In 2001 he was sentenced jailtime for drug possession which shouldn't be the last one as he was arrested again in 2006. He was released one year later as the jail's clinic couldn't take care of his HIV disease which hadn't been public yet. As I posted in one of my really first Posts he worked with Jamie xx (you might know him from The XX) and released his last album "We're new here" in February 2011. Three months later he died in a New York hospital.
It is really worth checking out his great work !

Baba Zula & Mad Professor - Istanbul Çocukları (Children Of Istanbul) (Dub)
This is my favourite song of Baba Zula from their album Duble Oryantal.
They are a alternative music group found in Istanbul, Turkey.
I don't know too much about them but really enjoy their quite unique way of bringing together different styles like the traditional turkish music with dub and electronic parts.

Hird - Keep You Kimi
This is a coorperation of the swedish electro-jazz musician Hird and Yukimi Nagano, both from Gothenburg.
As I don't know too much about Hird there is more to tell about Yukimi. She was born in Sweden having Japanese and American backround. She is the vocalist of the band Little Dragon which is really worth checking out. She also works with the nu jazz duo Koop or folk singer José Gonzáles (also from Gothenburg). You could also find her on Gorillaz' 2010 Album Plastic Beach.

Nicolas Jaar - What my last girl put me through
Born in 1990 Nicolas Jaar is a young and rising artist from New York with Chilean roots.
His huge variety of different electronic sounds and inputs make him one of my favourite electronic artists these days.
He studies literature in Rhode Island, released his first album (Space Is Only Noize) last year and is the founder of the label Clown & Sunset that hides some other promising acts like Soul Keita just to mention one.

Nujabes feat. Cise Starr & Akin - Feather
Nujabes was a Japanese Hip Hop producer, Dj and owner of the Shibuja record stores.
He also founded the independet label "Hydeout Productions".
Nujabes collaborated with hip hop acts such as: Cise Starr (from CYNE), Five Deez, Funky DL and many others.
Sadly Nujabes died in a car accident 2010 at the age of 36.

J-Live is an emcee, DJ and producer from New York City. After completing his English degree he worked as a teacher in Brooklyn which he later quit to focus on his music career.
He featured famous acts such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock or DJ Spinna.

St. Germain - Rose Rouge
St. German is the alias of the French musician Ludovic Navarre. His style is described as a form of house and nu jazz. This is just one great track among others from the album "Tourist" which was released 2000.
His early influences were artists such as Bob Marley, Kool and the Gang or Miles Davis.

3582 consists of the famous J. Rawl who produced Black Star (Mos Def and Talib Kweli) and Jon Marshall or better known as Fat Jon, one of the members of Five Deez. This Track is from the album "Situational Ethics" which was released 2003.

Julian Edwin "Cannonball" Adderley is an amazing jazz alto saxophonist who worked with other jazz legends such as Miles Davis, Ray Charles and John Coltrane. He died in 1975.
Paul Kalkbrenner - Dockyard
Paul Kalkbrenner is probably one of the most popular acts in the German electro scene nowadays.
He achieved his breakthrough when he produced the soundtrack to the movie "Berlin Calling" in which he starred himself as the protagonist, an upcoming techno Dj in Berlin.
He is associated with other artists such as Sascha Funke or his brother Fritz Kalkbrenner.
Amadou & Mariam - Senegal Fast Food
Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia are an amazing couple from Mali, Africa.
The two artists are also known as "the blind couple from Mali", since they are blind since childhood years.
In their extraordinary career they have worked with famous bands such as Coldplay, U2 and so on.
They are also great supporters of charity organisations and the blind music institute where they met.

Jean-Christophe Le Saoût or better known as Wax Tailor is a french Hip Hop producer who has his roots in the Paris suburbs. For this song JC Le Saoût worked with Charlotte Savary (also from Paris) who often works as an associated act of Wax Taylor. The song can also be found in the soundtrack of the movie "Paris" (2008) that I can really recommend.
